Deborah Lazear brings a unique blend of wine, cooking, and adult education qualifications to her classes. She is a Certified Specialist of Wine (Society of Wine Educators), and holds Certified Wine Educator certificates from Rhône Valley, French Wine Society, Écôle de Bordeaux, Spain, and Napa Valley. Her culinary expertise comes from studying with Cordon Bleu, and Jacques Pepin. Lazear has taught cooking and authored a cookbook Eating Out at Home. She has a degree in adult education, and facilitated leadership and sales coaching classes for E&J Gallo in 2009, 2011, and 2014. SDSU, the Business of Wine, and Lazear have been partners from the beginning of the certificate program. She was the original instructor, and for a time, program advisor. The Society of Wine Educators has twice requested Lazear to speak on adult education in wine classes at their annual global conference attended by over 500 people, and The Wall Street Journal has twice printed her wine and food pairing menus in the program of their Open That Bottle Night annual event.
