Karen Scanlon

Karen Scanlon is a historian and freelance writer who has written extensively on the maritime history of San Diego. As a volunteer at Cabrillo National Monument, Scanlon, along with twin sister Kim, tends the Fresnel lenses in its collection. She is a founding board member of La Playa Trail Association; and proud recipient of the Martha Washington Medal by Sons of the American Revolution for her work related to the 1905 explosion aboard USS Bennington in San Diego Harbor. In other directions, she has published works in children’s curriculum.
