OF 0004.25 Tunisia: Is it the Only Success Story of the Arab Spring?

To understand modern Tunisia and whether or not anything can or should be done to keep it on the path to stability, we’ll look at the country’s history, from ancient times to the French occupation and independence. After independence from France, President Habib Bourguiba (the first president of the republic) focused on education, infrastructure, and a secular government that built the foundation for today’s Tunisia. Learn about the Arab Spring, the rise of an Islamic-based party to power, and the role played by the public sector that led to electing an inclusive secular government.

OF 0004.23 Egypt: From Nasser to Mubarak to Mursi to Sissi; Deja Vu All Over Again

From the end of the Golden Age of the Pharos, to the advent of Christianity and Islam, the Ottoman Empire, British occupation, the 1952 Revolution, and military rule from Nasser to Mubarak, Egypt’s history yields much insight into its current political, economic and security challenges. We’ll also look at the Arab Spring, the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood, the presidency of Muhammad Mursi, and the role of the “Deep State” in removing him from power.
