Dr. Brittnie E. Bloom holds a bachelor of arts in Psychology and English from San Diego State University and a masters of science in Public Health from UCLA's Fielding School in Community Health Sciences with a specialization in Health Promotion and Education. In 2021, she received her PhD in Global Public Health from the Joint Doctoral Program between San Diego State University and the University of California San Diego (UCSD). Dr. Bloom is a proud first generation college student and cares deeply about student success and equity. As an undergraduate she participated in the Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program and as a graduate student participated in the Yale Ciencias Academy -- all programs geared toward supporting historically underserved populations as they pursue graduate study. Prior to completing her PhD, Dr. Bloom worked at SDSU in the College of Sciences working with historically underserved and marginalized student populations who were interested in pursuing graduate study. Dr. Bloom loves working with students in the classroom and has taught or co-taught a handful of public health classes, including Intro to Public Health, Careers in Public Health, Global Health and Program Evaluation for Public Health. In addition to multiple teaching appointments, Dr. Bloom holds a position with Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan, where she works on incentive programming for Medi-Cal populations, and has recently started an evaluation company (Side of Change Consulting) with her colleague and friend Dr. Marissa Salazar. Dr. Bloom's research interests and expertise are in sexual violence prevention and education and post-assault help-seeking behaviors.
