Dr. Lutheran Carter
Adjunct Professor, Dissertation Chair
Dr. Lutheran M. Carter is originally from Augusta, GA. He retired from the United States Navy after 23 years of military service. Dr. Carter’s duty of military assignments includes Fighter Squadron VF-143 at Naval Air Station Ocean, Naval Base Coronado (San Diego, CA), USS Bonhomme Richard (Sasebo, Japan), and the USS Nimitz (Bremerton, WA). While serving on active duty, he earned his Associates Degree in General Studies at Vincennes University, his Bachelors in Workforce Education and Development (Emphasis in Training and Development) from Southern Illinois University (SUIC), and his Masters in Workforce Education and Development from SIUC. As a senior enlisted leader in the U.S. Navy, Dr. Carter took what he learned in the Workforce Education Development Program and applied it throughout his naval career. While onboard the USS Nimitz, he developed a course curriculum for senior leaders and middle managers focused on team learning, leadership development, peer leadership, coaching, mentorship, and physical fitness training. During his time with Commander, Naval Air Forces (San Diego, CA), he was instrumental in creating a leadership training program focused on ethics, leadership, and professional development of junior enlisted Sailors. Dr. Carter has also served as the Training Chairman for newly promoted senior enlisted leaders from 2017 to 2021 at various Navy installations.
In 2021, Dr. Carter graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership with an Emphasis in Organizational Development. Dr. Carter’s dissertation focused on Chief Petty Officers’ leadership behaviors and if those leadership behaviors predicted the organizational commitment of enlisted sailors in the United States Navy.
In addition to his full-time responsibilities as an active duty service member, he was an exam administrator with the Resilience Building Leader Program and a member of the Wi2CoLab Dissertation Group. During his time with the Wi2CoLab Dissertation Group, he focused on helping doctoral learners achieve their goal of finishing their dissertations and becoming independent scholars. Dr. Carter is currently serving as an adjunct professor in Leadership and a Dissertation Chair at Carolina University and as an Adjunct Professor with Alliant University. In addition to his duties at Carolina University, he currently serves as a Human Resource Management Adjunct Professor with San Diego State University (SDSU) Global Campus, where he teaches Performance Management. Additionally, he teaches Effective Communication Skills as part of SDSU’s Leadership Workshop Series.
