What makes an effective teacher? Preparation, preparation, and preparation. Effective teachers prepare by understanding their students’ thinking and making connections between this thinking and instruction. Effective teachers prepare lessons that anticipate students’ thinking, conceptions, and misconceptions, and use effective scaffolds that facilitate students’ understanding of the material. The goal of this course is to support and partner with new teachers, through mentoring, to help them succeed in teaching and focus on student learning outcomes.
