WI 0001 Exploring Wine

This course takes students on a journey around the world of wine. Topics covered include: history, grape varietals, viticulture, language and labeling, tastings; as well as an introduction to food and wine pairing, wine service and temperatures, and the wine-making process. This is an overview of the role and influence of wine in history and today's culture, a foundation for further wine education.

WI 0034 Importing and Distribution
Importing and distributing wine isn’t all traveling and tasting. To become a successful wine importer/distributor, you need a comprehensive understanding of warehousing, budgeting, time management, marketing, branding, packaging, pricing, licensing, regulations, shipping, and working with wholesalers and retailers.

In this class, you’ll learn how to create a strong business model and start building a portfolio to match. You’ll also learn about different resources that wine industry professionals have used to build their businesses. Through real-world advice, guided wine tastings, and a close examination of different brands, styles, and packaging, you’ll learn what it takes to stand out in a crowded field and find success in importing and distribution.

MP 0205 Sponsorships and Fundraising - Nonprofit Event Planning
This course explores the unique set of factors and expectations involved in using special events as a fundraising tool for nonprofits and covers topics including: creating unique events, complementing an organization’s mission and development plan, setting budgets and timelines, generating multiple revenue streams, designing and selling corporate sponsorships, and getting free PR.

Note: Students must attend all classes in order to pass the course.

OL 0138 Software Programming Fundamentals
This course presents the basic concepts of computer programming and introduces learners to structured programming concepts, coding design, and style. Learners will be introduced to selection and repetition programming constructs, structured data types, and procedures. This course aims to teach generic programming concepts and skills using pseudo code to illustrate and work through algorithms and programming logic and discusses some of the most common best practices that should be used in the planning and coding stages. It also discusses best practices when considering security issues, efficiency, and maintenance.

CM 0010 Teaming, Partnering and Subcontracting
This course will discuss the strategic and practical aspects of partnering with other companies including the use of a variety of contractual documents to implement these relationships such as teaming agreements, joint ventures, reseller agreements and subcontracts. The applicability of each potential relationship will be addressed along with implementation practices and risks associated in both the government and commercial business sectors. Emphasis will be on strategy and planning necessary for the successful use of each technique, typical negotiation issues and approaches, and keys to successful management of such agreements once established.
