In this course we will be learning about the vibrancy and diversity of Iberian life and cultures, past and present. It will be an interdisciplinary course, examining history, music, foods, art, architecture, literature, film, politics, religion, and the economy. Because the course will take place in Barcelona, special attention will be given to the local relationship to Catalan, Spanish, Basque, and Portuguese cultures. Throughout, we will reflect on and discuss the connection between traditionalism and change that is so characteristic of both Spain and Portugal, past and present.
