This course examines the distinctive and common features that Germany and the United States have taken to grapple with the issue of immigration. Both countries are destination countries in the global movement of people seeking both economic opportunity, and safety from political turmoil. Immigration presents challenges to both countries such as who is given entrance, integration of those who enter, the provision health, social, and educational services to new arrivals. Understanding other approaches to policy development and implementation offers a rich source of ideas for policy reform.
This class is a two-week intensive study of international security, regional issues, and global concerns. The core component of this class will focus on understanding the politics, relations, and values that influence the diverse culture of Georgia, as well as understanding the economic, political, and social issues affecting the region.
